EXCELLENT RESULTS IN A TOMATO PLOT IN ALMERÍA

In the production of cluster tomatoes, the correct configuration of the cluster and the uniformity of the fruits (both the size, as well as the degree of ripeness and the number of fruits per cluster) are the most important factors valued by the market and consumers. 

This autumn we found in a greenhouse with the Juanita variety, from De Ruiter / MONSANTO; with a situation where the plant formed the bunch with an insufficient number of fruits per bunch and thus the farmer had the risk of being left out of the very high demands of the market.

With our biotechnology, we have set out to achieve the following objectives:

  • Thicken the stem to reach 10 kg/m2 (the farmer's target is 7/8 kg/m²)2).
  • A higher number of fruits per bunch (the market requirement is a minimum of 15 fruits/bunch) directly increases the production and gives the farmer a greater chance of success. Objective of EDYPRO to achieve bouquets of 20 fruits to have an average higher than the 15 fruits per bunch.
  • Obtain bouquets with very uniform, high-quality fruit and large caliber.

  • To ensure that the fruits ripen at the same time, making it easier to harvest the bunch.
  • Shorten the internodes to increase the number of branches per linear meter of plant.
  • To increase the plant's metabolic defenses and enable the plant to respond appropriately to environmental/climatic changes.

 Without a doubt, the most important moment in the production of these tomatoes is the fruit set process, when the number of fruits, their configuration and the time that elapses between the setting of the first and last fruit of the bunch are determined, working with our biotechnology and stimulating the genes linked to the processes of Fruit Set, Fattening and Ripening.
