Having lived in Almería since childhood, Ramón Marruecos has witnessed the evolution of agriculture in the region and of greenhouse cultivation in general. His experience in the field and knowledge of agricultural products are the result of more than 30 years working in the sector. Since its founding in 1986, R. Morocco, SL, A Spanish company dedicated to the marketing of agricultural supplies, fertilizers and plant protection products specializing in a wide range of organic products, has sought to achieve and stand out for the excellent results in crops under plastic.
- What type of crops do you grow in your fields?
We've grown several crops on our land. In recent years, we've focused mainly on Almería cucumbers. We sow the seeds in November and harvest the cucumbers around January, February, March, and April. Small watermelons, melons, and zucchini are some of the other crops we've grown in recent years.
We work towards organic farming free of residues, offering top quality vegetables for the national and European markets.
- How do you balance those two facets of your agricultural supply business and being a farmer?
It is important to surround yourself with trustworthy people in both aspects.
On the one hand, I have workers in the field responsible for ensuring everything is in order and informing me of any unforeseen issues. However, I supervise the work every day and I like to be on top of my business.
On the other hand, in the supply warehouse, each worker clearly understands their role. We're in daily contact and we organize ourselves to ensure everything runs smoothly. I like to stay informed about everything that's happening, but it's important to delegate tasks.
This year we've focused on integrating social media—Facebook and Instagram—into the company, and we haven't ruled out YouTube in the future. Our goal is to be a modern company, adapted to the changing times.
- What is your daily routine like in the countryside?
I usually arrive at the farm around 8:00 a.m. and meet with the person in charge to discuss the work that will be done throughout the day. As I mentioned before, each worker in the warehouse knows their duties; however, I go to the warehouse daily and am in constant contact with the entire R. Marruecos, SL team.
During the peak growing season, I tend to be more involved in these tasks. Our crops are organic, which means being fully attentive to them. The arrival of a pest or fungal problem in such a delicate agricultural system as organic farming could jeopardize the entire harvest due to a lack of resources to combat it.
Farming is wonderful, but it requires time and dedication. The experience gained from managing a supply warehouse and staying up-to-date on the latest organic products is a significant advantage for a successful harvest.
Furthermore, we leverage our experience in our own field to show our clients the exact path to achieving quality crops.
- What are the values you would most highlight in a farmer?
Undoubtedly, consistency is key. A farmer's work doesn't recognize weekends or holidays; you have to be on top of the crops every day. You can't relax because that would mean extra expenses.
In my case, on Sundays when I get up the first thing I do is go to the farm and check that everything is in order.
- How many years have you been in the world of agriculture?
All my life. My family moved from Granada to Almería in 1960. Back then, there weren't greenhouses like we know them today. We've witnessed the growth of the agricultural sector in the province of Almería. I'm the son of a farmer, and from a very young age, I've had to help out at home with my father, so you could practically say I've been working in agriculture for 50 years.
- Which EDYPRO products do you use most often in your crops?
For our crops and as soil preparation to achieve excellent results, we always use EDYPRO MOISTURIZER This allows the water reaching the plant's root zone to easily distribute itself through the soil and displace unwanted particles near the roots. We also use it consistently throughout the growing season. COUPE REGENERATION PLUS This product structures, prepares, and regenerates the soil, resulting in a noticeably improved capacity for vegetative growth. The key to this product is undoubtedly maintaining a living and active soil at all times.
Subsequently, depending on the needs and phenological stage of the crop, we use ROOT PROCUJI, , which directly affects the flower, accentuating a correct initiation of thickening, is a product that we always recommend, especially in these stages of the plant, due to the amazing results it has, if we add to that EDYFOS, Especially during cold periods when phosphorus is not as readily absorbed due to its presence in the soil or because we need an extra boost, it will provide high-quality pollen to our flowers, making them very attractive to pollinating insects and ensuring perfect pollination and fruit set. We also support the fruit when it begins to swell with EDYFRUIT FATTENING to increase carbohydrates and thus affect the size, consistency, and sugar content of the fruit. Regarding pest problems we may have in our crop, such as whiteflies or thrips, with the support of REVOLUTION By applying it weekly, we saw a significant decrease in the pest population, so it's another product we've continued to use. Besides being residue-free, it completely respects beneficial insects and helps repel pests from within the tissue, triggering defense mechanisms that make feeding difficult. At the same time, it exerts direct control over adults by immobilizing their activity. That's why we consistently recommend it to our clients.
- What aspect do you value most in these products?
All these products have given us very good results and in the end we ended up recommending them for our supply warehouse, so when the farmer tries them, they have already been tested on our farm and we know what we offer, so when the farmer sees the results in his crop there are no surprises.
The biotechnology that EDYPRO is using is giving very good results; after all, when a farmer tries the product and sees no effect, he doesn't buy any more.
The crop yields with these products are evident; for example, we've given our watermelons two passes of ROOT PROCUJI and then to complete a pass EXTRACUAJE and the results are unbeatable.
- Since what year have you been working with EDYPRO?
We have been working more intensely and consistently with them for five years.
- Which EDYPRO product do you appreciate the most?
Without a doubt, the star product is ROOT PROCUJI, It's the one with the highest demand, and we've seen it firsthand in our own fields. When the blossoms set fruit, they do so perfectly, resulting in a uniform fruit. We're currently working with mini watermelons, which need to weigh between two and three kilos for the market. If the blossoms set fruit well, the fruit will have a uniform weight throughout the entire crop, and our plantation is in perfect condition.
- Which products have made a significant difference in your experience with EDYPRO?
For example, the COUPE REGENERATION PLUS, This product, designed to restore soil fertility by reactivating the soil's microbial fauna, displaces toxic salts, increases cation exchange capacity, produces a more branched root system, and replaces conventional manure applications, has undoubtedly achieved a product that goes beyond the normal market standard, delivering verifiable results.
- What value would you highlight, apart from the results, of EDYPRO products that have marked a turning point in your experience with EDYPRO?
I think the management they're doing is excellent. Maintaining respect with the distributors is very positive and gives us confidence to continue working with them. When Vicente comes, he works closely with the technicians, and there's a very good technical and advisory relationship in that regard.
