EDYPRO On February 18th, a technical seminar on Premium Quality Citrus Production was organized for distributors and growers. The event aimed to showcase the biotechnological solutions researched and developed by [the company/organization]. EDYPRO to address the production difficulties that some varieties have due to their genetic characteristics.

More than 40 people, including some media outlets from the Levante region, attended the meeting held at the Florazar Hotel by Flagworld Hotels. Arina Vovk, the company's Marketing and Export Manager, welcomed the attendees and introduced the event.

The latest trends in the citrus sector point to an increase in the market share of early and late varieties that, due to their genetic makeup, present production challenges. Vicente Puchol focused his presentation on two varieties: Orri and Tango.

The manager and technical director of EDYPRO He explained the scientific reasons why the Orri variety does not have a large yield. It is a mutation obtained in Israel from the irradiation of buds of the Orah hybrid. It is a very vigorous tree with a significant winter reserve depression, which, as a response, causes blind flowering and pollen with low fertility.

One of the reasons for the low production is a lack of control over flowering and its delay. Puchol explained how, through biotechnological products and proper crop management, these problems can be corrected, resulting in a good quantity of fruit of good size and quality while maintaining the soil in optimal condition.

The Tango variety, which originates from the Nadorcott irradiation, presents a problem of insufficient fruit size. The variety's genetic origin favors erect trees with a high capacity for generating metabolites and fruit with a highly receptive peduncle. This situation results in an excessive number of fruits, which, combined with the absence of seeds due to parthenocarpic fruiting, leads to slowed fruit enlargement in the first phase. Through biotechnological solutions of EDYPRO These problems are solved by producing good quality fruit that also has excellent organoleptic and quality characteristics.

Technicians from major production companies in the sector were thrilled to learn how Valencian researchers specializing in biotechnology work to find the root cause of various difficulties and develop solutions to achieve Premium Quality and Waste-Free Production.
