Eating oranges and tangerines has always been considered a healthy choice. We all know the many health benefits of consuming fruit. And if we eat seasonal fruit, we're also benefiting the environment and our local producers.

The mandarin and orange season in our country begins in September and ends in June. These are two fruits that we can find in the supermarket for many months. Some varieties, due to their peel, have a great shelf life and can remain in perfect condition for a long time. This is crucial for reducing food waste, because if the fruit doesn't spoil, we won't have to throw it away.

Furthermore, Spain leads the European ranking in orange production and exports. Therefore, if we make sure to buy Spanish produce when we shop, we are not only protecting our health but also ensuring we are purchasing a safe product that contributes significantly to the country's economy.

Domestic citrus fruits are controlled by high standards of quality and sustainability, superior to those of other producing countries outside the European Union.

And what do they provide us from a nutritional point of view?

Both fruits have a low caloric value and low fat content. They are rich in vitamin C, a compound that promotes iron absorption. They also contain significant amounts of folic acid and provitamin A. In addition, they contribute some carotenoids that participate in the prevention of different types of cancer and in the protection against cardiovascular diseases.

Finally, it should be noted that They contain soluble fiber (more so in oranges than in tangerines). This component promotes the reduction of cholesterol and glucose levels in the blood and enhances the proper functioning of the intestinal flora.

But most importantly, they're delicious. Although the predominant flavor varies from variety to variety, both oranges and tangerines generally have a balance between sweetness and acidity.
