In the last month, important international meetings have been held regarding rice cultivation.
With the aim of staying up to date with the most important developments for the rice sector, at EDYPRO we have participated in the latest conferences dedicated to this crop held in Spain and Italy.
On August 25th, the 27th Rice Field Day of the Institute of Agrifood Research and Technology (IRTA) took place. This event aims to transfer and disseminate practical information to the rice-producing sector and, at the same time, exchange experiences and opinions that can be useful for improving the sustainability of rice cultivation on farms. There, we were able to learn about new rice varieties and the latest studies on precision fertilizer use.
One of the most interesting presentations, from our perspective, was the production trial using different irrigation methods aimed at saving irrigation water for each crop. Given the difficulties facing the sector, which have left large areas uncultivated in Spain, Italy, and Portugal due to water shortages, water management in rice paddies is essential. The results of these field trials will be presented at the Rice Technical Conference organized by IRTA in February 2023, which we eagerly anticipate.

In the last week, several events have been held in Italy where new varieties and the latest technological innovations have been presented, such as BASF's Provisia technology or the FullPage cultivation solution from RiceTec and ADAMA (the latter at the SAPISE Open Day)

We were also present, as a biotechnology partner, at the IRES (Italian Rice Experiment Station) event. New varieties were presented, and experiences were shared regarding seed treatments to optimize fertilizer use and seeding rates (in kilograms per hectare) for optimal production. We will soon learn the results of this research. In addition, we provided seafood paella for the producers and technicians from across Europe who attended the event.
